Original Item. Only One Available. The regulations of 1859 for the U.S. Marine Corps distinguished between headgear for “dress” and for “fatigue” (i.e. every day and field use.) The specified insignia for officers’ fatigue caps was gold bullion embroidered hunting horns with a silver Old English “M” in the loop on a crimson ground.
This is an extremely scarce example of a Civil War Marine Corps Officer's cap insignia. This insignia is in great shape and retains the scarce M in the center. The badge measures 2⅛" x 1¼”. The badge has a great red felt backing.
